The blow fly has a green, blue or brown-yellow metal colored body and are between 7 mm and 13 mm long. This winged insect has 6 short legs. The head has two large compound brick red eyes that cover almost the entire surface and very small antennas.
Female blow flies leave groups of 100 to 200 eggs in meat, fish animal carcasses or excrements. They can lay between 500 and 2,000 eggs during their lifetime of up to 3 weeks. The blowfly larvae transform into adults within 2 to 10 days.
Blow flies are attracted by dung, carrion and rotting meat waste. They can therefore be found in large numbers inside the house around a trash can filled with leftover meat or around a cat litter box.
Since the blow fly is often in contact with a lot of bacteria and wanders about on people and their food, they could transmit diseases. This parasite is also hated for its irritable buzzing and insistence on landing anywhere on the human body repeatedly.
It does not take time to establish a blow fly problem. The presence of a blow fly infestation will be obvious by the sound of buzzing and their large numbers around garbage, litter, or any other potential source of food.
